Thanks
Jman {Ed013's Note - That is already a good session, remember you need rest days for your body to recuperate. I recommend on a weekend resting and you can also have a cheat day where you can eat whatever you want} Love the cheat day but feel so guilty but it gets me in good form for monday gym day for that extra motivetion to burn lol

I'm in need of some serious help, im going gym a while now and my chest is starting to annoy me, the top/middle-ish is starting to get harder but the outsides mainly bottom and nipple area and still fat, why is this and as it is the outsides that really make the pecks. I'm getting a lil worried.
Anyone with a genuine knowledge give me advice on exercises/what to do etc.
Thanks I had the same problem mate so i took my rep just abit lower than my nipple line when benching and it seemed to work Do decline aswell i dont use a barbell i just use free weights,(IMO i think it burns better too)
also do flys,they work 98% of the chest

Hi guys, first timer here. I am. 25 and weigh 298lbs. Only about 3 years ago I weighed 210. I desperately want to get back to my old weight, but am so unfit it's unreal, if I try to exercise my shins really hurt and my back gets crippled. I don't have a lot of money to buy good nutritional foods every week or to go the gym too much, maybe twice a week is do-able. Any suggestions what I could do? I'm constantly hungry and feel dizzy and sick if I don't eat sufficiently, any comments and advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers. Rob86. {Ed003's Note - I'm sure if you contact your local council they can put you through to someone qualified to help you,and when they do could you let me know how it's done}

hello mate i was just wondering should i start taking rest week every couple of months I have been training for 7 months now with my routine being...
monday- back and biceps
tuesday- light cardio
Wednesday- shoulders and legs
thursday- abs and light cardio
friday- chest and triceps
saturday- long run
sunday - rest and EAT
The last time i had a rest week was about 3 months and it did feel great and i probably had the biggest gain i have ever had since i started lifting but i just want to know when and how long i should rest for and also should i consume more calories during my cardio and ab days ? thanks {Ed001's Note - rest periods are as important as the training, so yes a good break can help you take your training to the next level. You just have to be careful not to rest too long or too often. A week off every 3 months should be just right, but your body will tell you, you should be raring to go back.} Nice one mate

Hi, are effs (ethrogen) illegal?
Cheers {Ed001's Note - I don't believe it is legal to have other than on prescription in the UK, but I am not 100% on that.}

Hiya everyone,
Just wanted to know what's the best way to get 6 pack without doing weights?
What kind of food shoud I eat and avoid?
Thanks
Iby {Ed001's Note - getting a 6 pack is about losing the fat that normally covers the muscle. So eat less and exercise more, aerobic exercise is better for shifting fat than weights anyway.} What kind of aerobics exercise can I do for a 6 pack?
Thanks. Great jobs eds {Ed001's Note - any will help attain it, it is more about the amount you do to work off the excess fat stores. Also, doing a variety of different types of exercise, will help, it stops the body being able to get used to one particular type. You just need to make sure you really work yourself into a sweat each time and push yourself hard.}
24 Apr 2012 15:13:50
Hi, quick question for you all. Am a firefighter, been training about 5 years on and off. Still got the big chest and shoulders but getting a gut now, and it needs shifting! Any ideas, also are ethrogen (Effs) illegal, will I fail my medical? Thanks
gaz b Hi mate i do lots of circuts .which include body weight ex and dumbell ex plus i throw in some ploymetrics...try something like this 12ex with 10 reps = 1 set....press up ..dumbell lunge..star jump ..diamond press up ...burpee ..dumbell bentover row..tuck jump ..dumbell shoulder press .....squat jump....clap press up ..dumbell squat...bi curl...repeat six times with 90 secs rest in between sets .....njoy See that thing under your nose put less in it and you will see big changes
red rrab Who disagreed with red rrab putting less food in that thing under your nose is the best way of loseing fat FACT
RED RRAB {Ed001's Note - it isn't the best way, because your body will just store more and try to take more out of what it has. Your metabolic rate will slow and it ends up being counter-productive. The best way is to increase the amount of exercise you do.}
20 Apr 2012 17:53:15
Alright ed I have a question for you and/or anyone else that has a genuine knowledge, im 17 and go to the gym I want to go on protein but my parents are reluctant to let me and I'm just wondering can the use of protein have any side effects or have any possible consequences,
Thanks
Jlk
{Ed033's Note - To be honest, if you're talking about buying expensive protein supplements, at your age, I'd save my money and eat protein through regular food unless you're some kind of athlete. If you eat too much protein, nitrogen waste produced from protein digestion may harm your kidneys. Well then what sort of food would you recommend and like when to eat it {Ed001's Note - white meats, such as chicken, dairy products, almonds, peanut butter, horlicks, bagels to replace bread, soya beans, the list is huge.} Tbh it depends how your body takes to it. Protein is just a 'supplement' ie if you don't get enough protein in your diet then that's how you have a protein shake. Protein it's self won't do you any damage but maybe if you get a lot creatine in your protein then that may sent you off your head a little bit but as I said it just depends how your body takes to it.
On another note I was in Glasgow city centre last weekend doing a bit of shopping & saw these 2/3 wee boys must have been about 14 or 15 & they came out with this comment: a need another protein shake I've only had 2 already & a protien bar with his wee pals all agreeing lolol

Hey all need some help please.
Just started working my legs recently (say 4 weeks roughly) & started to up my running as well but starting to feel it in my knee joints,I've been advised to buy running trainers which I did today as before I was just wearing normal ones to the gym but basically is there any supplement like cod liver oil or that that will help or ease the pain ? (ps its not as in cant walk sore just like niggling pain)
As usual any help is great
Lenny {Ed001's Note - you need as much in the way of oily fish as you can get, such as cod liver oil. Also go to a proper running shoes shop and they will put you on a treadmill to check your stride and then fit your shoes to you.} Well i was in jjb & the guy gave me the reebok zig tech trainers with like extra gel in sole felt a lot better than the normal one & the guy did say it would be better for my joints. Gave the guy credit he put his cards on the table & did say my job should be to sell you ones at £130 but any of the ones he recommend we're all under £75 but did stress about the gel in soles as he had bad joints & he found them helpful. Anyway most of my running is HIIT training but it's when I'm doing leg extension,squats etc it's after it I feel it in the knees. So basically as much fish oil etc as I can ? Is there anything better than CLO tablets or if not is there a 'limit' to how many you can take as such ?
Cheers for the quick reponse 001 knew you knew your stuff on legs from a pev post
Lenny {Ed001's Note - he has not watched your gait and fitted your trainers to suit that though. A proper one would get you to run on a treadmill mate, if they haven't asked you to get on a treadmill, they aren't giving you the right shoes. You can't take too much fish oil or it will go through you, I know this goes against most of what you are told, but switching to a higher fat intake, as most of the minerals and vitamins you require for healthy bone structure is fat soluble only, should help. Changing to full fat milk, instead of semi or fully skimmed helps a lot I have found. I do have issues with my knees, I find that increasing my warm up with a fair bit more gentle stretching and the cod liver oil, primrose oil and returning to full fat milk stops the pain for me. Obviously your issues might not be the same, so you might not get the same effect, in which case you will need to consult your doctor. But the primary thing is to get fitted for the correct shoe!} Maybe try a vitamin d supplement?
{Ed033's Note - vitamin d3 ? Yeah, the one that helps with bones.

hi i wonder if any of you can help. i broke my left collarbone in 3 different places 5 years ago and stopped going to the gym due to injury and needing to rest shoulder. well i decided tuesday that i was going to visit the local gym for first time since the break (i know 5 years without gym is along time. feel disgusted ive waited this long lol) while at the gym a few lads from my work were seeing how much they could lift and i ended up joining them. i lifted way above my suggested weight (95kg) and my arm felt like jelly after but i just shook it off and thought nothing of it and continued working out. but ive woke up about 2 hours ago in agonising pain and cant lift my arms above my chest height without wincing in pain and if i stretch the arms out fully at all i feel like screaming and feel light-headed through pain and was just wondering if anyones ever had this sort of thing happen to them and if so how long was the pain with them as im due back at work on monday and it involves lifting empty beer barrels. thanks in advance

Hi ed, jus asking ur advice on the best supplements for gaining size but also staying lean? I'm not talking body builder size either lol also do u kno any places that sell good resistance bands (preferbly heavy) doing P90x but my dumbells are too light. Cheers.
Big Mac {Ed001's Note - I would have to do my research, I haven't been using weight gain supplements for a good few years now. Weight is the last thing I need to gain! But the basic idea is high protein, the size you grow is really up to you and the way you train and eat. I don't know where to get them from now, I always used to buy my equipment from my friend's shop, but he shut down recently so I can't even suggest him!}

eds or some one please tell me the best way to get rid or man boobs i go to the gym 3 times a week what would be best thing to do thanks
g man {Ed001's Note - it's fat storing there that is the issue, so you need to up your metabolic rate to get rid. Low weight and high reps, or cardio exercises such as running, skipping, swimming will all help.} Thanks ed ill try skipping and the weights
g man Would the fly machine be best

im starting to gain abit of weight back ed, like 3kgs only though, but thats still something for me. but to be honest, i think its because i stopped smoking, stopped for like 2-3 weeks now, n i realize that i eat more now, guess its because i dont smoke i tend to eat more?
cereal for breakfast at around 8am, then at college around 10 had another breakfast, lunch around 2 then dinner around 7-8. i just realized after i stopped smoking cereal was no longer enough as my breakfast. does smoking reduce appetite ed?
Kaizer {Ed001's Note - yes, that is why most of those ultra skinny models smoke, it does affect appetite.} Eat oatmeal for breakfast dude. All those cereals are muck. Try wholegrains ie bread and pasta. Try and eat complex carbs only like the ones i suggested. Drink loads of water and and cut down on simple sugars. The only sugars you shoud eat should be from fruit.

Hey Mj any news on the HGH?KD
16 Mar 2012 23:29:23
EDS i have good size and muscle on my arms but i want by bicep and tricep to get ripped what is the best way of doing this is doing more reps the right way?
RED91 {Ed001's Note - to get ripped, you need to get rid of fat, muscles are covered in fat normally. You have to work on reducing the amount of fat your body contains, so increased reps will help, but you would be better doing them on bigger muscle groups for fat loss.} How often should you train on your bicep/tricep a week ed? {Ed001's Note - that depends on you and what you want to achieve mate. You should never look for a one size fits all method, best thing you can do is find what works for you. What worked best for me was daily training, with the emphasis on a different muscle group each day, for 5 days and then take 2 off. I tended to train just once per muscle group each week. Then on my days off I would do gentle swims and runs to work on conditioning. These days I just do what time allows though, so it is not so organised or anything like as often unfortunately!} At the Moment i go to the gym 5 times a week and train different things every day i am starting to get stretch marks on the arms is that a good sign ED? {Ed001's Note - it just means your skin is changing quicker than its natural elasticity can cope with. If it is because you are losing the flab, then it is a sign you are making quick progress yes. They don't go though mate, you might want to try using some moisturiser to try and stop them forming.} 0 - 45min = building muscle size
45min - 1.30hrs = muscle toning
1.30 hrs + = just endurance Â
Like ed said muscles do have fat round them so stuff like burn outs like 21s etc that will help in toning your arms. Remember tho the slower you go the better the burn which in the long run will get you there quicker, also lighter weights help in toning up & getting the lines in the right places.
Lenny {Ed001's Note - slower is better for building size, faster is better for burning fat Lenny. Because slower movements just emphasis the use of the muscle, while faster ones get the heart pumping and the metabolic rate increases.} Also if you can cut out sugar from your diet the fat just falls off you. Its hard to do but it works, then add to that healthy eating and regular excercise and you'll certainly notice the difference I can assure you!

I am quite new to the gym scene (around 6 months) and for the last two months I started to take whey protein mint chocolate flavour from myprotien.
I have stopped taking the whey protein for the past week since it has increased my acne and am pretty sure it is to do with the whey protein. I am going to stop for a month or two and then start again to see if the acne comes back.
Do any of you have any ideas of foods I can eat to increase my protein intake (I am a vegetarian)
Cheers Guys
{Ed033's Note - Eggs and dairy products?} I need to cut dairy products aswell as they also affect acne in me but eggs is a good idea {Ed001's Note - bagels instead of bread, they are higher in protein, and drinks such as Horlicks or Complan or meal replacement diet drinks. They tend to be high in protein.} Not really sure about this, but a friend of mine is kinda like good in this stuff, i remembered him saying salmon is a good source of protein. less fat as well.
Kaizer Get a soy protein supplement from optimum nutrition or sun warrior vegan protein. I have a friend who is a vegetarian and he reckons they are great.

Ed ive just found out about HGH and its costing £500 for a 3 month kit.I also found that there could be some side effects like wrist pain and tingly fingers,did you experience any?and it seems a bit steep on the price?KD {Ed001's Note - that does sound a lot, but things are a lot stricter than they used to be so it is probably because of all the costs involved in keeping within the law. I never had those pains, that I noticed, but I was doing physical work and training hard, so any pains wouldn't really stand out.} I know someone in work who dabbles in certain substances so will ask the price and if it is better than 500 i will give you the name of the substance if you want so you can do your own research on it

Ed i heard its really good all the top athletes have taken hgh.what kind of hgh have you taken and was it expensive. Kd {Ed001's Note - I tried a few versions, couldn't tell you what they were called though, but they worked well for me. I was about 8 stone and 5ft 5" when I left school, I grew about 3 inches and bulked up to about double the weight. It wasn't expensive though, I had very little money, so it was affordable. Best thing to do is read up properly for yourself, I was lucky to get the right ones at a time when it was easily available to buy. I am not sure if things have changed since then.} This hgh is quite interesting, ed i got a question here.
im 21 this year.
55KG about 175 in height. small i know, guess its normal for asians.
but the thing is, 5-6 months ago i was 65KG. i lost 10 Kilos, and i cant seem to get more weight, now im not looking to build fat, i need meat.
1. well thats why i said this hgh is interesting, is it gonna affect me at 21 years old?
2. a friend of mine suggested eating more. and by more he means, more meals a day, not how much i eat at a time. eg: 5-6 meals a day could work. well, i dont even know if any of this is gonna work, i hope u can help me here.
Kaizer {Ed001's Note - eating more will help, doing the right kind of training will help as well, emphasis high weight and low reps. You obviously burn off what you eat very quickly, try supplements such as protein shakes or, and this is a very good method, things such as meal replacements or Horlicks, on top of your normal food intake. It might sound silly, but things like Horlicks and Complan are high in protein and will allow the body to rebuild muscle mass broken down by the training. HGH will not have as much effect at the age of 21, it will help, but from around the age of 21 your body stops growing up and so growth hormones will be working against nature, rather than with it.} By training do u mean... exercising? can it work without exercising? well, im not living a healthy lifestyle of course, but i do play football sometimes, thats all i do. i dont really think i can find time to go to the gym ed.
Horlicks? okay sure that 1 is possible, how about milk ed? lately ive been drinking alot of milk. just wondering if it has any effect?
also about the protein shakes ed, simply drinking protein shakes daily, without the gym / exercises what sort of effect do u think it brings? i just remembered a friend of mine actually suggested this protein thing, but im not sure if he is joking when he says u dont need to exercise, just drink it daily.
Kaizer {Ed001's Note - milk is excellent for increasing weight, if full fat, it is a very good drink to have after exercise as well, far better than those sports drinks. Increasing your food intake without the exercise will just lead to the body storing up excess intake in the form of fat. Any exercise you can do will help, in fact 1 minute of all out sprints can do a lot to improve your fitness, if you manage to do it regularly, with less likelihood of it affecting your chances of putting on weight. You don't want to do long workouts if you are trying to increase bulk anyway, that would be counterproductive. The best way is to get a tailored workout suited to your personal genetics and level of current fitness, which is altered to suit you as your body changes. That is expensive though, so you just have to try your best to understand your own body and alter what you do to suit how you feel.} And yes, high metabolism may also be a problem, i eat the same amount as both my brother do, but they are 3X / 4X my size. both of them.
Kaizer {Ed001's Note - you are lucky mate, I had pneumonia a few years back and my metabolism has virtually stopped since and it has really affected my ability to train as hard as I used to. Make the most of it while you can enjoy eating and drinking what you want!} I am enjoying it ed, but at the same time i am kinda cautious too. cause my mum, about 50-ish now has high cholesterol, and she sometimes tells me to control what i eat, i dont see the fat yes, but i cant see the cholesterol thats what she keeps on telling me, its true though.
okay ed, tq so much, least i got this 1 off my chest. ive lost 10 KG and i dont even know what to do, until i remembered u had a health n fitness site. dont feel like going to the doctor about this. ill try my best and see if it improves. im just hoping i get to 65 back, atleast
Kaizer {Ed001's Note - good luck with it mate, I am sure you will look back on this in a few year's time while wishing you could lose weight!}

alrite peeps, would love to know what is better for toning, cross trainer or rowing machine? I think the rower is the only exercise machine that works the entire body so i'd go for a rower mate
MJ Rowing machine out of those two, but try body weight resistance exercises like Dips, Press Ups / Half Press Ups, Jack Knife Press Ups, One / Two Leg Squats etc.
Things like kitchen chairs can be useful too if doing it at home. They're not very heavy obviously but try doing Side Lateral Raises with them & you might find it difficult.
Good luck with it.
15 Feb 2012 21:16:00
Alright lads was wondering if any of you have any advice on rowing machines. I used to run and play footy a lot but injured my knee and since that and high impact activity gives me bad Pain in my knee.
Considered swimming but it's just not practical to get to the pool on a regular basis so I thought a rowing machine would be the next best cardio (trying hard to lose the beer belly before summer)
Does anyone have any suggestions for a decent rower, doesn't have to be top of the range but would like it to last, also one with decent resistance would be good. Any suggestions?
Ashy Magnetic rowers are the best mate i think you can pick up a decent one on ebay for about £70-95

Lenny a mass gainer feeds you an astronomical amount of Calorie's so if you are not working out for about 3 hours a day it will not help with losing Fat
MJ
12 Feb 2012 14:47:45
Question I need answered again.
This time about mass gainer. Might sound a daft question but will mass gainer make you fat ? I know it has good fats & carbs in them etc & to put muscle on you put on weight but don't want to buy it then put on fat?
Also don't know if I said this before but if you have sky watch the active channel 281 some really good stuff on there from weigh training to cardio etc
One more thing, does anyone work their legs on here ? I don't work mine but heard people saying when you work your legs aswell as everything else it makes you lose your fat % etc & ov you start to get more muscle too
Any help is great as usual
Lenny {Ed001's Note - any food will see you gain fat if your body has excess, if your body doesn't use it then it stores it. I always push my legs harder than the rest, they are the biggest muscle groups and so have the most overall effect.} Well true enough ed. do you do like compound move like squats with the smith machine etc or just the leg machines ? also how long does your leg work out last ? It's the only muscle group I don't have a clue about lol. Do you work your legs as a whole or do you like top half of the legs one day then the other the next time your in the gym ?
Any advice would be great ed
Cheers in advance
Lenny {Ed001's Note - I have never been one for going to the gym, I always used free weights at home when I was bulking up. Lots of heavy squats and the like, work the thighs one day, calves the other. Always best to isolate and work the groups separately if possible.}
08 Feb 2012 20:34:59
Is there any kind of protein drinks that helps you lose weight or are the all for bulking up thanks ed. Jude {Ed001's Note - no drink can truly help you lose weight, that is not how it works. You can use a protein drink to replace a meal and then you will lose weight, but it is not going to help you lose weight on its own.}

Ed as i have posted before i have 8 Shaun T Insanity's for sale but Ebay kept taking them off so i spoke to Beachbody and they will not let anybody other than themselves sell their products which i found quite confusing as i have seen people sell P90x on ebay and that belongs to Beachbody, Anyway do you know of any other sites i can sell them on as Amazon is controlled by BB Inc so im kinda at a loss of idea's.
Many Thanks
MJ {Ed001's Note - there are other trading sites, similar to EBay, it would be worth looking around for them mate. Other than that I have no idea. I know NZ has Trademe or something like that, how about local papers or the like?} Cheers Ed i will have to have a real good scout around i had a quick look but didnt really have much luck...It's quite annoying as it really is an amazing product and im glad Big Mac pointed me in its direction but im sure i will find a way around it
Cheers ED
MJ {Ed001's Note - good luck mate.} I can't believe you've not got rid of them yet. I thought u cud sell them on eBay etc? I never knew beachbody was like that. Try getting them on facebook or even a Market or something. I don't think people realise how good the workout really is
Big Mac Never thought about Facebook Big Mac im not a member of it though so not sure how i would do it, I'll ask my mate to see if he can sort something out..Cheers mate

hello there i would like an honest opinion,im a guy, i want a sleeve tattoo, but i am only 5ft 4inch tall and have 11 1/2 inch arms, will it look stupid on me. Go to the Tattooist and find a tattoo you like and ask the person to print it out and they will measure it up against your arm so you can see what it looks like..I gave a Dragon Tattoo in same place and he done mock up of it for me
MJ Onli u can b the judge of that pal. I'm a big fan of black and grey sleeves (kind of like beckhams or the guy off prison break) it's a matter of opinion. People say my tattoos look great but others hate them. A tattoo can stil look class on a smaller guy. Like mj sed, get it printed on ur arm 1st in pen n see how u feel.
Big Mac {Ed001's Note - I was brought up to think of tattoos as belonging to prisoners and sailors only. So I personally dislike them intensely, though I can see why others like them, it is a personal thing.} Cheers for the response lads. think im going to do that first n see how it looks
